Events

 

Games Soc run many events throughout the year - from console sessions to lab gaming and traditional/tabletop gaming. We are always open to new ideas, so drop us a line if you would like to see somthing added!

Here is a breakdown of our main events for the year:




  • Lab Gaming

    C204 is the base of operations for our lab gaming with the like of Counterstrike 1.6, Quake 3, Starcraft and Age of Empires 2 being played. We meet every Thursday evening from 6pm in C206 and run till 10pm. Note that this is very stirctly Gamessoc members only (you can sign up to the soc when you arrive :)

  • Console Gaming

    Every Wednesday will have us out with our consoles - from Rock Band and Halo to Pro Evo and Smash Bros. We meet in the Seminar Room or in the Venue or the Hub, whichever we can book, from 2pm to 6pm. Currently we have a PS3, 2 Xbox 360s, a Wii, 2 Gamecubes and a PS2, as well as our flatscreen TVs to play games on! All members are welcome to bring anything else they want to play, eg games, consoles etc.

  • Traditional/Tabletop Gaming

    Every Monday and Wednesday night from 6pm in either the Seminar Room or somewhere in the Henry Grattan, we get together to play board games, card games, RPGS, war games and other non electronic games.

  • BYOPC LANs

    Each semester we're planning on having a big, bring-your-own-pc event in the Venue inside the Hub. This is a huge deal, and so is currently being planned - keep an eye on the news/events pages and the forums to keep up to date.

  • Trips to Gaming Conventions

    Every time there's a big gaming convention on, we'll be offering discounted tickets, accommmodation and travel for any Games Soc member who wants to attend. From tabletop gaming cons like Gaelcon and Warpcon, to PC events like Midlans, we'll be there.

  • Industry Talks

    We get major Irish gaming companies and important figures in the Irish games industry to come out to DCU to talk about the work they do and chalenges they face.

  • Game Tutorials

    Teaching you the basics of Game Programming, we invade CA's L101 for these workshops. We provide you with the source code, images and take you through what exactly you are doing.

  • LAN Nights

    We are going to host a series of off-campus LAN nights in an internet cafe throuought the year. Check the events page and the forums to keep up to date.
