Every Tuesday night we connect to the society's own games server commonly known as 'Blinky' to play
a variety of games. Below are some common questions about Blink.

Physically, it lives in the RedBrick server room, which is in The Hub. Its IP address is: 136.206.15.40 Also accessible by: blinky.games.dcu.ie
Who was involved in the building of it?
The parts were initially chosen by Rampage (Simon Kilroy) at the end of February and were eventually ordered by phaxx (Charlie) in March. The server itself was then build by phaxx and Zyox (David Connolly).
What is run on it?
Currently we have Counter-Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead servers.
We formerly ran a CS 1.6 server for about two years.
Other servers included Battlefield 2, Day of Defeat, The Hidden: Source, Quakeworld and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
Can I keep track of the stats on the server?
Current stats are available on the society website (on the right).
Who maintains the server?
The only root-holder is a RedBrick system administrator, chosen by Games Soc to
maintain the server while it stays in the Redbrick Server Room.
The GamesSoc Chair and PC Ents Officer also have the ability to ssh to blinky by default.
The Chair is free to delegate this privilege to other committee members.
Current committee with access are: Gav (Chair), Seamus (Secretary) and Dan (PC Ents).
Who's in charge online?
The current committee act as game admins.
They have the ability to rcon to the servers and are responsible for the smooth running of online games.
How is it decided what servers are to be run on blinky?
The committee decide ultimately based on popularity among members and likelihood of actual use. Servers are removed when nobody uses them anymore.
